What types of organizations can license Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
At this time, only High Schools and Secondary Schools worldwide. Until further notice, no other school grades, organization types and/or independent productions that wish to use high school students are permitted to license the show.
How can I be sure that my school can produce Harry Potter and the Cursed Child successfully?
The school edition has a reduced runtime and requires less technical requirements than the professional production, so schools of any size, budget, or technical capabilities can produce the show with ease.
Which add on materials are available and how do I add them to my order?
Available Now: Scenic Projections, Lighting Guide, Costume Guide, Illusions Guide, Director's Guide, Scenic Design Guide, House Banners Guide, Sound Effects, T-shirts, Poster and Show Artwork. To add to your existing order or to place order after your license is approved, please contact your licensing representative at cursedchild@broadwaylicensing.com. Otherwise, you can add on these products in your licensing application.
How will add on materials and resources be delivered?
Illusions, Scenic Design, Costume, and Lighting Guides and House Banners will be delivered digitally for download. Official Poster and Show Artwork will be delivered digitally by our partners. Sound Effects will be delivered by our partners at ROCS (Right On Cue Services). Director's Guide will be shipped from our warehouse. Cast and Crew T-Shirts will be delivered by our preferred vendor, Slant. Please allow 3 weeks (15 business days) for processing and delivery.
How much are Cast and Crew T-shirts? How long will T-shirts take to ship to my school?
Minimum 50 T-shirts per order, plus $15 per additional T-shirt. Please allow 3 weeks (15 business days) for processing and delivery. Available in 4 colors and sizes XS to 3XL. Only available through our approved vendor on our website. Our partner vendor, Slant, will contact you to confirm sizes and colors following your order.
When is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child available to license?
The show is now available to license. Click the Apply for License button to license now.
Will there be a production package with the show?
Yes. A required production package will be provided with your license. The production package will ship to your school. The production package will include: Acting Editions, Director Scripts, Stage Manager scripts, required music, and a media kit (social media + press release templates).
When can colleges, community theatres, professional theatres, and other organizations license Harry Potter and the Cursed Child?
Licenses for colleges, community theatres, professional theatres, and other organizations are not available at this time. Until further notice, no other school grades, organization types and/or independent productions that wish to use high school students are permitted to license the show.
Why can only High Schools and Secondary Schools license Harry Potter and the Cursed Child?
In order to put arts education and our future theatre makers first (the students!), Broadway Licensing Global and its partners have made a strategic decision to open opportunities for schools to have the first crack at this global phenomenon.
Will the touring show restrict High School rights in my area?
The upcoming national tour of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will have no impact on your school's ability to produce the show. We encourage schools to see the touring production when it is in your area.
When will my country have the school version of the play?
High Schools and Secondary Schools worldwide will be able to license and produce Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in 2024.
What is included with the license? Music? Props? Costumes? Logos?
Acting Edition scripts, Stage Manager script, Director's script, required music, and media kit (social media and press release template). Full details are outlined in the Production Package when you apply.
How adaptable is the show in order to cater to all abilities?
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is for all abilities, and the show can be catered to every ability. To read a perusal script, click "Buy Perusal Script".
How long is the school version?
The running time is approximately 2 to 2.5 hours depending on staging, including one intermission.
Is this a play or a musical?
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a play with music.
While some groups will do this show as a whole school 'Musical' type event, others may like to do it with smaller Drama clubs with lower budgets or even with a Drama class. Can the show be scaled up or scaled down depending on the group?
The creative team’s original vision for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was that the show's magic should have its roots in storytelling techniques that could be achieved when playing at home or in school, so creating a version of the show for students has always been an objective.
If effects can't be produced as written, can we adapt for our performance spaces and budget?
The High School Edition is being written so that any school can produce the show with success. In fact, The creative team’s original vision for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was that the magic, illusion, and special effects should have their roots in storytelling techniques that could be achieved when playing at home or in school, so creating a version of the show specifically for student performances has always been an objective of the production.
What are the casting requirements/restrictions?
In Harry Potter and the Cursed Child there are 16 roles for men, 14 roles for women, and 4 where the gender is not specified. Any active high school student can be cast in any role so long as the role stays as written.
Can it be promoted everywhere? When productions stipulate it can only be within this school, this has a huge impact on ticket sales. What are advertising restrictions going to be like?
We request that you restrict promotion to your local community. You will receive a brand guide as part of your licensing agreement, which will provide detailed guidelines to follow in your marketing and advertising.
Are there restrictions on using licensed Harry Potter merchandise and clothing?
Themed merchandise is not permitted with your license. Details will be outlined in the licensing agreement.
